I Movie: Prohibition in Kansas.

I used the app I movie to create a short video clip of the Prohibition of Alcohol in Kansas. This app allows you to choose between recording and taking your own video to upload or by recording your voice and creating a video. After playing around with the video for awhile I figured out how to use everything. It was really simple to use and very enjoyable. I would recommend teachers to use this app because it allows teachers to be able to create a video for their students. Also students could really get involved with using this app. Students could use this app to create school projects.

Interactive Whiteboards & Screencasting, My first Screencast!

The app that I chose to use for this project is called show me. This app allows you to either choose from your own pictures or insert pictures from the web. I really like that this app gave the option of having a choice between uploading your own photos and choosing photos from the web. It helped me out a lot so that I did not have to draw everything. The app is very easy to use. You can record your voice which is the best part. This app could be used in the classroom for days that you have a substitute teacher. This can keep students on track and focused. The students will be able to have their actual teacher explain the subject rather than the sub. I also think that students would have a lot of fun with this app as well. This app can be downloaded for free from the app store.

I Movie Trailer: Remembering April 20th 1999

I used the app I movie to create this short little video clip. I really like I movie. It was very easy to use. The app also has an option where you can create a movie as well. I can see how teachers would use this app in the classroom. It could be used to teach a lesson, or to show kids a quick video that the teacher made. Students  could also use this app to create a project after reading a book for class. This app is really fun and I really enjoyed using it. I would recommend that teachers give this app a try.

Using apps in the classroom: Hopscotch lesson ideas

image

The apps in the classroom series was created to provide teachers with a few ideas on how to integrate content creating apps into daily classroom instruction. Each of the 18 guides provides a collection of activities that span age range and subject matter.  Inspired by Apple Distinguished Educators, the activities are designed to encourage students to think in new ways and help them take a creative approach to apply and demonstrating learning. The benefits of the Hopscotch learning app is that it is simple and makes game development educational. The sharing featuring is also beneficial because it allows students to be part of a learning community. The app was designed so that students can develop computer science, problem solving, and logical thinking skills. I would recommend that teachers give this app a try. It has numerous activities ranging in age, and in subject matter. It has games for mathematics, Literacy, Science, Foreign language and Geography. This would be a wonderful asset to the classroom. When students have free time or just need a little more practice this would be the ideal app to get the trick done.

Inspiring Ideas for teachers: Create a toy challenge

image

Inspiring Ideas for teachers is a collection of 30 books in the apple distinguished educators program. ADE’s advise apple on integrating technology into learning. They explore new ideas, seek new paths, and embrace new opportunities. I selected the stem challenge, create a toy to review. The challenge is designed to challenge students in the stem program. The task they set forth is to create a toy that meets the standard stem requirements. At the end students can present their challenge to the audience and compete against other students in the same program. This could be used in the classroom to show ideas on teamwork, competition, and confidence. It is always a challenge for students to get up in front of an audience and share their projects. I believe if you allow teamwork in the classroom and give kids a challenge, they will enjoy competing against their other classmates and getting to share in front of people. When students work hard towards a goal they want to share with others. The more opportunities that the teacher gives their students to share with the audience the more comfortable they will get.

One best thing: Turning Memories into story.

cover225x225

One best thing is a collection of books created by apple distinguished educators; that demonstrate the use of apple technologies to transform teaching and learning. Each book shares a unit/lesson and is designed to help educators implement successful practices. I chose to review the book Turning memories into story. This was an interesting read. Students were given a project, and within that project students were to interview an elder person and ask them a life story. This could be about the dust bowl, the great recession, war, or anything interesting. After interviewing their elders students were to gather artifacts that related to the story, and create a shadow box. They were to use their memory and retell the story by using a storytelling software with voice over, so that the students could narrate and record . After they created the shadow box and story they then went and showed the elders. It was a neat way for the students to see what they remembered and what they left out. I Could see this being used in the classroom. This doesn’t just have to be for older kids. I think younger kids could use this same idea and make it interesting. I would recommend that teachers view the One best thing books, they are very helpful and give some good activities to do with your students.

Week 10 Blog Reflection: Tech edge in the classroom.

Tech Edge, i-Pads In The Classroom – Episode 145 Social Studies Apps

The first Video that I viewed was about social studies apps. The History atlas app is pretty neat. It allows students to view what is happening around the world. The second app that was talked about is called illustrated USA. Illustrated USA is a regional map that allows students to click on states, and it will give them resources and tell them the state bird, flower, nickname and so much more. The last app is called history pin. History pin is a great app that can be accessible on the i-phone. This app allows you to view history through time on a timeline. All of these are great apps for social studies that would be very easy for students to navigate.

5 Ways to Use the iPad Camera for Education.

This video gives suggestions of what to use the i-pad camera for when it comes to education. The very first thing that he suggests is to give students a note card and have them write their names on it. Then the teacher can take a picture of each student with their name cards. He suggests that this a very easy way for teachers to learn the names of their students especially when they have a large class. By doing this the teacher has access to the students and can practice their names with faces. Another suggestion that he makes is than when a teacher is giving a lesson on the white board to take a picture of the lesson and upload it for those students that may have missed classed. He also suggests to teach students to do this as well. He also gives a few more suggestions on how to use the camera that could really be helpful towards teachers.

Tech Edge i-Pads In The Classroom – Episode 122 Storytelling Apps.

This video was my favorite. It is very helpful to know how to upload and share videos that you have created. You can create videos for lesson plans online if you know you are going to be sick that day. Students could have something to do with the substitute. Students could also have the chance to create their own videos to tell a story or for a class project. These apps would be very fun for students to use. Instead of doing a book report on paper. Maybe students could use one of the apps to retell the story and upload it to share with the rest of the class.

Week 7 Blog Reflection: Ditch that Textbook.

8 ways technology is revolutionizing education.

8720604364_85c5931a14_z

While visiting this blog I have learned that technology is revolutionizing education because, classrooms now have tools that can make learning happen that was impossible years ago. Students can now create some of the most amazing class projects and for little to no cost at all. Back then teachers didn’t have the proper equipment or the money to supply students with technology. Back then having technology in the classroom would cost schools a fortune. Its exciting to see just how far technology has really come. Students can chat with other students from across the country that are in the same grade level as them, how exciting. There are also a lot of practice websites out there than a teacher can assign a fun homework assignment. Not all lessons are from the books anymore. Technology has really branched out, and its the most exciting time to be a teacher and a student.

NEWS -O-MATIC DAILY READING FOR KIDS.

While visiting Shelly Fryer’s blog, I stumbled across this new app that she had posted to share with other teachers. News -O -Matic is a free app that students can download to keep up on current events. I remember the days in Elementary when we would do the 6th grade news over the intercom. We each had to bring in a news item from either sports, local, world, and weather.  We as a class would share our news paper clippings that we brought in. Then we as a class would create a news story with our favorite current events to share with the rest of the school. I think that kids would thoroughly enjoy this app. Its a lot easier to use than the newspaper in my opinion. I am really glad that I chose to read Shelly’s blog. This would be a great app to bring into the classroom. It is also a fantastic way for students to be able to keep up with current events that are happening, as well as, it would lead a fantastic group discussion in the mornings.
