I Movie: Prohibition in Kansas.

I used the app I movie to create a short video clip of the Prohibition of Alcohol in Kansas. This app allows you to choose between recording and taking your own video to upload or by recording your voice and creating a video. After playing around with the video for awhile I figured out how to use everything. It was really simple to use and very enjoyable. I would recommend teachers to use this app because it allows teachers to be able to create a video for their students. Also students could really get involved with using this app. Students could use this app to create school projects.

Interactive Whiteboards & Screencasting, My first Screencast!

The app that I chose to use for this project is called show me. This app allows you to either choose from your own pictures or insert pictures from the web. I really like that this app gave the option of having a choice between uploading your own photos and choosing photos from the web. It helped me out a lot so that I did not have to draw everything. The app is very easy to use. You can record your voice which is the best part. This app could be used in the classroom for days that you have a substitute teacher. This can keep students on track and focused. The students will be able to have their actual teacher explain the subject rather than the sub. I also think that students would have a lot of fun with this app as well. This app can be downloaded for free from the app store.

Inspiring Ideas for teachers: Create a toy challenge

image

Inspiring Ideas for teachers is a collection of 30 books in the apple distinguished educators program. ADE’s advise apple on integrating technology into learning. They explore new ideas, seek new paths, and embrace new opportunities. I selected the stem challenge, create a toy to review. The challenge is designed to challenge students in the stem program. The task they set forth is to create a toy that meets the standard stem requirements. At the end students can present their challenge to the audience and compete against other students in the same program. This could be used in the classroom to show ideas on teamwork, competition, and confidence. It is always a challenge for students to get up in front of an audience and share their projects. I believe if you allow teamwork in the classroom and give kids a challenge, they will enjoy competing against their other classmates and getting to share in front of people. When students work hard towards a goal they want to share with others. The more opportunities that the teacher gives their students to share with the audience the more comfortable they will get.

The collection of books can be found by Downloading the free I Tunes U app, and opening the for educators tab.

One best thing: Turning Memories into story.

cover225x225

One best thing is a collection of books created by apple distinguished educators; that demonstrate the use of apple technologies to transform teaching and learning. Each book shares a unit/lesson and is designed to help educators implement successful practices. I chose to review the book Turning memories into story. This was an interesting read. Students were given a project, and within that project students were to interview an elder person and ask them a life story. This could be about the dust bowl, the great recession, war, or anything interesting. After interviewing their elders students were to gather artifacts that related to the story, and create a shadow box. They were to use their memory and retell the story by using a storytelling software with voice over, so that the students could narrate and record . After they created the shadow box and story they then went and showed the elders. It was a neat way for the students to see what they remembered and what they left out. I Could see this being used in the classroom. This doesn’t just have to be for older kids. I think younger kids could use this same idea and make it interesting. I would recommend that teachers view the One best thing books, they are very helpful and give some good activities to do with your students.

I chose to use the adobe slate app. This app is free to download. After viewing all of the other apps, this was my favorite. I like this app the best because it is mobile friendly. I usually have difficulties creating activities on my i-pad. With this app I can say I had no problems using it at all. Slate is  a free iPad app that lets you turn your next newsletter, report, invitation or travel adventure into a gorgeous visual story. Slate makes it easier than ever to create amazing animated videos or beautiful visual stories, in minutes. You can follow the website listed below to download the app for free today.

Comics in the classroom

043

The app that I used to create this comic strip is called comic maker. It is free to download on the app store. This comic maker is really fun to use. It gives you the options for which background you want to choose as well as characters. There are options for more advanced users who want to choose from many other characters and backgrounds. To have the advanced option you have to pay for it. Overall I really enjoyed creating this comic. It was very user friendly. I can see how students would enjoy using this app in the class room. They could use this app to create their own story plot lines from the books they are reading. It could possibly take over the boring book reports.

My first tellagami project.

I have never used the tellagami app before. This was my first time and  I used the free version of it, but I bet you could make some pretty awesome videos if you bought the full version for $4.99. I thought that this app was very easy to use. I like the fact that it lets you create your own character and that you can make your own background from a photo on your camera roll. I can see how teachers would use this in the classroom. I would rate this app “thumbs up”. It was so easy to create, and very fun at the same time. This app is limitless to the ideas you could create a tellagami for.  For starters you can make fun of your friends by creating a tellagami that looks just like them, and mimic their voice. The best part is, you can text it to them afterwards. Tellagami even offers an educational one. This would be something that I would consider bringing into the classroom.

Thinglink in the classroom: Common Core

This is my second time using thinglink. Overall it’s not a bad app. It’s not one of my favorites. The first time I ever used thinglink I had difficulties trying to figure out how to upload the information that I wanted. The Pros to thinklink is that it’s a good way for students to use if they have a project that is due. For instance if a student was assigned a project over the topic of drinking and driving it would be an easy way to organize the information, and share with classmates. I can see teachers assigning students a homework piece using this app. Youtube is a great way to learn how to use this app, if it is your first time. The downside to the app, or parts that I don’t like about it is, that it’s quite confusing unless you know what you are doing. The app is free to download and can either be done on your i-pad or your computer. I prefer to use it on my lap-top because it’s a little bit easier to maneuver. The app can be found on the i-tunes store, or at the following website http://www.thinglink.com/. I think some students would enjoy using this app. It’s a new creative way of displaying information without using a power-point. At first I think students might struggle with it. But with a little time and knowledge of the app I think they will get the hang of it, and appreciate it’s use.
